Abstract:

The purpose of this case study is to assess the efficacy of home and office-based vision therapy (VT) in managing bilateral amblyopia with intermittent exotropia (IXT). Multiple studies suggest that VT has a considerable positive effect on stereopsis, magnitudes of deviation, and fusion vergence amplitudes (FVA). This case study examines the impact of VT on fusion control, visual acuity, and sensory and motor fusion. A 5-year-old girl presented with bilateral amblyopia and basic type IXT. We recommend a 20-week VT program, both at home and in the office. After completing VT, we addressed amblyopia by improving visual acuity with both eyes. The patient exhibited both near- and distance-depth perception. The patient's FVA, fusion control score, and near-point of convergence (NPC) were all normal. At both distances, the magnitudes of deviation decreased. Overall, VT demonstrated significant efficacy in treating amblyopia with IXT, leading to notable improvements in both sensory and motor fusion.
